Originally founded as Indiana University Retirement Community, Meadowood continues to have strong ties to Indiana University and Bloomington. Currently Meadowood is the home to no less than 60 IU Alumni and some 40 IU professors and staff. Meadowood is active year round in many University-related events. We are an official recital hall for IU School of Music activities with over 100 on-site recitals every year. Meadowood residents are also regular attendees of the diverse cultural programs IU offers, including athletics, arts, keynote speakers, the IU Art Museum and many others. Transportation to the events is provided, and residents receive preferred seating and ticket pricing. IU continues to be a strong supporter of Meadowood and its philosophy
of life-time learning. Residents regularly participate in Continuing
Education Courses both on-and off-site. The IU School
of Education's IST program worked in conjunction with Meadowood's Ameritech
Senior Computing Site in offering a series of ongoing computer and internet
courses for all interested residents. The purpose of these classes was
to provide basic computer training and an easy on-ramp to the information
super-highway. Through the senior computing site, all Meadowood residents
are currently able to have their own E-mail accounts, making communication
between friends and loved ones rapid, inexpensive and educational. Meadowood has a deep connection to IU. I think there’s no question that this place is being run right.
