  1. What does the monthly service fee include?

    The monthly service fee includes total maintenance of all homes, grounds, and facilities, scheduled and certain individual transportation services, basic cable, a wide choice of activities, once a month housekeeping and weekly trash removal. Water and sewage are included in the monthly fee. Also included in the monthly service fee is one meal a day per resident. See Basic Services.

    All residents enjoy use of Meadowood's walking trails, arts and crafts room, woodworking shop, card and billiards area, libraries, and a computer center. Meadowood also has a large all-purpose gathering room called The Terrace Room, and numerous other meeting rooms for gatherings and social events, as well as a private dining space. In addition, the monthly fee covers a multi-level wellness program which contains $35,000 worth of Nautilus equipment to suit the fitness needs of our residents, along with exercise classes with instructors three times a week, an emergency call system, 24 hour security, and much more.

  2. What other services and amenities are available?

    Additional services are offered by Meadowood at a nominal extra charge. Additional meals, catered receptions and dining in two private dining rooms, meal delivery to homes, personal transportation services, relaxing massages and spa treatments, beauty and barber shops, a variety of health clinic services, additional housekeeping, concierge, and supportive services. Located on the lower level you will find a bank and our beauty and barber shop. See Services and Amenities.

  3. What types of residences are available?

    Meadowood offers both Garden homes and apartments with one to four bedrooms. Our residences range from 538 square feet up to 3000 square feet. See Residences.

  4. Will I be able to customize my home or apartment?

    Residents are allowed to customize their homes to fit their personal preferences. If a resident wishes to customize his/her home further, written approval must first be obtained from Meadowood Management. The resident will then be responsible for all cost of the improvements or modifications. Ownership of the addition or change automatically accrues to Meadowood Retirement Community. Meadowood can assist with the planning and/or execution of this customization.

  5. Is additional storage space available?

    Yes, in the apartments. We do not currently offer any storage unit outside the residences, except space that may be available in garden home garages.

  6. Is parking available near my home?

    Yes. Each garden home has either a one- or two-car garage or a carport. There is abundant parking space available for the apartment homes in the main level parking lot of the building.

  7. Are shuttle services available on the property?

    Yes. A shuttle runs on campus to and from the main building. Shuttle services are available for lunch and dinner runs as well as evening programs in the main building for those living in garden homes.

  8. Are we allowed to have pets?

    Yes. We welcome all well-mannered and fully housetrained pets of residents living in our lower level apartments and all garden homes.

  9. Does Meadowood offer guest rooms for out-of-town guests?

    No, however, we do have a contract with the Hampton Inn, which offers a reduced rate for out-of-town Meadowood guests.

  11. What health care services does Meadowood offer?

    Meadowood offers independent living to our residents, as well as special care and comprehensive and skilled nursing in the Meadowood Health Pavilion. Also see Wellness & Health.

  12. What will happen when my health care needs change?

    Your residency at Meadowood entitles you to all our levels of care. If your health needs change, facilities appropriate to your needs are readily available, within the guidance of our Resident Services Director and Director of Nursing.

  13. Do I need long term care insurance at Meadowood?

    This decision is solely up to you. It is not a requirement that our residents have personal long-term care insurance in order to live at Meadowood.

    You only need to carry renter's insurance that suits your personal needs.

    Our marketing team and business professionals will be more than happy to discuss all matters concerning your moving in to Meadowood. However, it is in your best interest to consult your attorney or other financial advisors concerning the above matters. Meadowood cannot give you financial or tax advice.

  16. What steps do I take to make an application for an existing house or apartment?

    In order to initiate the admissions process, you must submit the Applicant Profile and Confidential Health Care Information and Application for Residency forms to Meadowood Retirement Community.

    All admissions to Meadowood Retirement Community are subject to approval by the Admissions Committee consisting of the Executive Director, Marketing Director, Resident Services Director, and Director of Nursing. See Admission Policy and Application Forms.

  17. How soon can I move to Meadowood?

    It depends on availability and the waitlist response to offers made to them. Typically there is a 0-6 month wait for Garden Homes, and 3 years for apartments.

    Meadowood is located in Bloomington Indiana, at 2455 Tamarack Trail, off the 46 by-pass, by the IU Football Stadium. We are right by the IU Cyclotron facility. See Maps & Directions.

    Meadowood requires an application fee of $800.00. $500.00 of this fee constitutes a portion of the security deposit and is refundable if you wish to be removed from the waitlist. The remaining $300.00 is a non-refundable processing fee. See Rates & Fees.

  26. What kinds of activities may I participate in at Meadowood?

    Meadowood offers a large variety of social, educational, recreational and wellness programs. Events and activities include: an average of 260 organized activities a month, Indiana University continuing education classes on site, symposiums, lectures, and musical programs, bookmobile visits on site, regularly scheduled worship services for both Catholics and Protestants, weekly social hour with complimentary hors d'oeuvres and beverages, monthly resident birthday dinners, theme dinners, semi-annual resident theme party, Indiana University student and faculty recitals, exercise classes 3 times a week, gentle exercise and Tai Chi.

    Yes there is a waitlist, and it currently contains 125 people.

  28. I am interested in Meadowood. What do I do now?

    In order to initiate the admissions process, prospective residents must submit the Applicant Profile and Confidential Health Care Information forms to Meadowood Retirement Community, along with an $800 application fee. $300 of this is a non-refundable processing fee, the remaining $500 is applied to your $2000 security deposit.
